Hugh Simpson (Contractors) Ltd was unloading sea containers from a MV Vantage at Scrabster harbour. Vantage is a cargo ship with the overall length of 100 m.

We have been unloading containers at Scrabster harbour on a regular basis, however this was the first ship we unloaded with a mobile crane on the quay. We unloaded 50 full containers and the same number of empty containers had been loaded back onto the vessel. A JCB wheel loader was also lifted onto the ship.

Hugh Simpson (Contractors) Ltd acted as stevedores in cooperation with Sandisons Shipping, which is the shipping agent that liaises with the customer, harbour authorities, ships crew and transport company.

Our approach

Containers are unloaded by using a 350 ton mobile crane sited on the quay
Once on the quay a reach stacker loads containers onto a lorry for onward transportation
Once the ship is discharged, empty containers are loaded back onto the ship
