Deutsche Bahn
Since May throughout September Hugh Simpson (Contractors) Ltd has been unloading pipes at Georgemas rail junction. The pipes are loaded at production in Hartlepool and arrive at Georgemas by rail operated by the Deutsche Bahn.
The pipes are 12 and 14 m long and 323-409 mm in diameter. Over a period of 5 month we have offloaded around 2600 pipes.
The challenge of this project was the limited time allowed for lifting, as the operations had to cease when the trains were passing by. Through careful planning and preparations the average time the team spent offloading a wagon was less than 20 minutes.
