Hugh Simpson (Contractors) Ltd unloaded Glen Kyllachy wind farm components at Inverness harbour.

The first of eight vessels MV Aramis arrived at Inverness Harbour on Monday carrying 27 blades each 44 m long and weighing  12.5 Tonnes. Hugh Simpson (Contractors) Ltd was responsible to discharge the blades from the vessel and move them to a storage area on the North Longman storage site. The blades were lifted and stacked 3 high in matched sets to allow removal for a complete turbine at a time.

Our approach

• Planning of storage arrangements taking into account the component arrival sequence and tight packing requirements as well as considering the allowance for removal of the components in matched batches.

• Two cranes in tandem lift were sited on the quay and two cranes at the storage area with two lorries moving the blades.

• Components were tied down to concrete blocks
