Hugh Simpson (Contractors) Ltd unloaded railway lines from MV Amy at Scrabster harbour.

Hugh Simpson (Contractors) Ltd was responsible to discharge 784 railway lines, each 18 m long and weighing  0.86 Tonnes. The rails  were lifted in bundles of 5, each bundle 4.3 Tonnes.

Once discharged from the vessel the railway lines were transported to a temporary storage area.

Our approach

• A crane on the quay is rigged with a spreader beam and chains
• A team of Slingers and a Banksman in the vessels load compartment sling 5-10 rails in one lift
• The crane is guided to lift the load onto the quay and lowered onto a trailer
• The railway lines are transported to a storage area
• Material handler and a team of Slingers unload the rails onto the laydown area.
